Tucked into a pine-covered ridge above Ranikhet, our two yellow-walled cottages have welcomed wanderers, writers and weekend escapers for years.

Mornings begin with chai on the verandah; afternoons drift between forest walks and watching clouds tumble down the Kumaon range; evenings end with a bonfire and bowl of Pahadi rajma.
